Any UK mental health charities that used donated furniture to furnish homes for people with mental health prob?

I will soon be having a whole load of furniture that I wish to give away. I’d like it to go to a mental health charity that perhaps supplies furnished homes for people to allow them to life in the community and who could not afford to furnish a home themselves.

Its all immaculate – like I have a leather three piece that has hardly been sat on as I do not use the room its in so its like new. There is a bed that was only used for about 4 months after purchase ETC.

I will also have a computer (less that 2 months old) and also computer printers that I will be expecting to be given way to help someone with mental health problems.

Any organisation that you know and you could pass on to me that take items and use them in a such away would be much appreciated.

I don’t want to donate it to a charity shop, I’d prefer that its actually used directly rather than indirectly via money they get from selling it.

When I was a kid we were extremely poor and my mother had no furniture as our previous place was furnished with the owner’s stuff. We got stuff off the social (it was over 30 years ago when they used to that sort of thing) and although grateful it was all odd and not in good nick and this is were my desire to donate for direct use rather than indirect use is born of.

Thanks.

PS I m not saying that my stuff is so great and everyone will think so when I made the comment about our social furniture, its just its like new and perhaps someone will get pleasure from it.
Thanks everyone.
To Catdog. Thanks for that and I’m gald to say that were I live we do have schems for furniture recycling that the council takes and does up a bit then sells to people on low income – which is a marvelous and very useful scheme. I have donated many items to them myself in the past but now I want a specfic mental health charity that rehomes people and needs furniture to put into those homes. I know nothing localy to me like it, but I would assume that as its a whole house full of furniture that they will be getting that it could be collected by a charity in another area to me. The 3 piece alone cost over £1000 and has been sat on a handful of times so they would be getting things that are ready to use and will need no repair or the such. I want to help people like who have problems like mine. As I said, when a kid we had social furniture and I would have given anything for furniture (not bragging) that is like mine is now and that will be donated.

    You could try MIND http://www.mind.org.uk/Mind+in+your+area/
I think what you are doing is brilliant and would be a huge weight off someones shoulders and one less worry for them to think about..

There is always someone coming out of psychiatric care that needs to be rehoused and the goverment grants take so long to process to provide the basic essentials i think what you are giving away would be ideal for someone and i’m sure MIND will have many people in their organisation in need..

    Well done..

You don’t say where you live. There are various different places that take in furniture donations and pass them on to people on low incomes for a small charge. I used to work for such a charity in Scotland and they also took on people with mental health problems as volunteers to give them work experience – they helped with re-furbishing and repairing furniture and doing collections/deliveries. Try doing a search online. I know Barony Housing Association in Scotland do it but I don’t know where you live so can’t give details of places near you.
